Really great article, appreciate your work. I don't have long covid because I have avoided being infected so far. This, too, is a lonely place to be. What I find most difficult is people very rarely acknowledge there is any reason to think about mitigating the risk of infection. Even the simplest mitigations like filtering and fresh air can't be considered because the existence and consequences of the disease don't exist in their minds.
Interesting take, whether Gilligan meant it that way or not. I hadn't thought of it this way, but it makes perfect sense that everyone who's gotten to "the other side" of the joining event is untroubled by the mass death, but the person who hasn't been absorbed is horrified by the much smaller number of deaths caused by her own actions.
The borg representative says it will take "about 9 months" to figure out how to fix Carol. It took "about 9 months" to develop and test the first mRNA vaccine. Coincidence?
Wow! Sounds like I'll have to reactivate my Apple subscription to watch this. Excellent review, Julia! And critique of society’s ongoing delusional denial.
I hadn't thought of it this way, thanks for sharing. I'm curious where the show will go, but I feel less against the individuality-destroying hive mind today than I would have been before the ongoing pandemic started.
My adult daughter is disabled by Long Covid and I am grateful for your commentary and describing the societal pressure to stop masking, stop pushing for air quality, stop asking for others to take precautions before visits
This is a brilliant analysis. When I started watching the first episode, my mind immediately went to COVID. You came up with a lot more connections than I did though. I don't think it was intentional which makes it even more interesting. It's too bad the show is so dull, uninteresting, slow and not funny when it's trying to be. Maybe the awfulness of the show is Gilligan's statement on how awful COVID is.

Frustrating and crazy making.
